The week in photos

This week I was lucky enough to have a great visit from Hilary (before she jets off to South Korea on Saturday)! We enjoyed two very sunny days in Boston including a trip to Fenway, two trips to a new delicious Lebanese restaurant in JP (that's two trips in one day - we're basically regulars now), nachos, a championship field hockey game, drinks at Cheers and a tour of the Boston public library, phew.

And another month has come and gone. Bring it on fall, I am ready for you!

Oh, and a happy Labor Day to all!

Taco Tuesday

Last night Drew whipped up her specialty tacos for our weekly "Taco Tuesdays". The greatest thing about the tacos this week was that they were not tacos at all, and were in fact pizzas! Toppings included broccoli, red peppers, onions, grilled chicken, pesto, and mozzarella (I'm drooling so much I may have to eat my leftovers right. now.)

Post - run, showered, and enjoying some pizza!

Backyard Biz-nass

I have decided I am ready for fall. I love summer quite a bit but I'm feeling the itch for a change in season. Over the last few days I compiled a list of fall activities I am really looking forward to.

1. Apple picking (and all other things apple - crisp, pie, cider, etc.)
2. Wearing fleeces & chunky sweaters
3. Pumpkin everything
4. The return of riding boots
5. Flannel (sheets and the like)
6. Scarves
7. Fall running (enough humidity already!)
8. Halloween
9. The start of school (only because it's my last trimester of Organic Chemistry. Hip-hip-hooray!)
10. Leaves (both colorful and crunchy)

Bostonniversary

It's official! I've lived in Boston for one. whole. year. You know the saying about how time flies? Well I'd say it's very true. It seems like just yesterday when I pulled up outside our very empty apartment (with a very empty gas tank and a very full bladder, if I remember correctly). In just one year this place has come to feel very much like home. A home that today decided to spring a leak in the hot water heater, putting only a small damp-er (ha) on my Bostonniversary. Thankfully, I made sure to celebrate over the weekend with some of my favorite Boston/Jamaica Plain activities (including some long, slow, distance running on Sunday along the Charles River/Emerald Necklace).

Here's to my first year in Boston (and to everyone who made it so memorable)! I cannot wait to see what the next year has in store.

The daily grind

One of the things I've realized about myself in the past year is that I thrive when I have solid structure and routine in my everyday life. I've also realized that between June and September structure and routine seem to take a back seat to weekend trips, BBQs, later nights, and earlier mornings. Now I am not saying that I don't enjoy these breaks in routine, but it does make me feel a bit out of whack at times.

This week I am making a concentrated effort to reinstate some of structure back into my life. I am already feeling calmer, healthier, and much more motivated after only a few small changes (yes, one of those things is a return to flossing twice a day, and yes I am a huge loser and accepted that years ago). One of my major goals for the next few weeks is to get back on the before work exercise train. I fell victim to evening runs and boot camps this summer (not that it was a bad change, but I do miss the morning crowd at the gym).  Since work these days begins at 7 am this means setting my alarm for a time I'd rather not share with you all (also the reason I am in bed at 9 pm) in order to get my 6 miles easy in before work (per the marathon training plan, yup still doing that). It will be a miracle if I don't hit snooze tomorrow, wish me luck!

On an entirely different note, here are some pictures that never made it up on the blog last week. A dinner that looks remarkably  like a face, and the Resident softball game I played in last week (we lost but made an impressive comeback in the last few innings)!

Some Summits

After a marathon weekend of hiking in the Adirondacks I am back safe and sound in my Boston bed. My alarm is set for 6 hours and 30 minutes from now so I'll keep this short.
Some trip highlights include:
Kate's 1st high peak
Iroquois
High peak handstands
Hulls Falls
Homemade chili
Steep, steep slides
Contact
Macomb
South Dix
Lillian Brook
Fifth of the Farm Jam
Peach Cobbler
and some very successful soul searching.
Enjoy.
